“Stress is the gap between what we expect to happen and what is actually
happening.” This quote from Gary Smalley, recognized relationship expert and
author of the new bestselling book
The DNA of Relationships
very neatly encapsulates what I see happening in my client’s lives all the time
- especially among women (hmmm...).
It’s also true that the more value you place on the expectation, the higher the
stress level. If you’re trying to be super professional, supermom, super
partner, super friend (you get the point) you will continually find yourself
disappointed and frustrated. The key is to align yourself with priorities that
fit what you really want in your life and make a conscious decision to let go of
what doesn’t fit that vision.
It sounds hard, but it’s easier than you think. Remember, time is the one
commodity you can’t replace, reuse, purchase, borrow, or lend. Are you spending
too much time stressed out by unrealistic expectations?
Escape the chaos!

A Smart Move
Selling your home and moving can be stressful, but proper
planning can take the sting out of managing all the details. Here are a few
things to consider when planning yours:
Write everything down. Get a notebook or 3-ring binder and write down all
your ideas, concerns, and “To Do’s”. Then organize them into a checklist format.

Plan in advance. At least 8 weeks before the move: contact moving
companies, get estimates, collect boxes, and notify magazines/catalog companies
of your address changes.
Pack early. Start right away packing items you don’t use regularly
(out of season clothes, special occasion china, books). Pack a few boxes each
day, and the process won’t seem so overwhelming.
Don’t take it with you. Sell, consign, or donate any items you really
don’t need. If you haven’t used it in a year or more, or aren’t planning on
using it in your new home, it doesn’t make sense financially or time-wise to
move it. Eliminate clutter as you pack.
Pack in order. Pack room by room. Use separate boxes for the contents
of each room. This will save time when unpacking.
Notify change of address. Notify utility, credit card companies,
banks, insurance companies, at least 4-6 weeks before the move. Get copies of
medical, dental and veterinary records.
Pack a survival box. Put together a box with essentials necessary for
the first couple of days in your new home. This could include medications,
linens and towels, a few dishes and silverware, clothes, soap, tissues. Keep
important documents, keys, receipts, contracts and checklists available as well.
Choose your movers with care. Get estimates from a number of companies
and choose a mover with experience and a good reputation. Carefully check and
understand the liability of the company in the event they damage any of your
possessions. Find out if your homeowner’s insurance covers moves.
Enjoy your first night. Try to make the first night in your new home
as special as you can. Get your favorite take-out food, light some candles and
put on your favorite music. This can really help you relax and regroup after the
stress of moving day.

My move management packages are affordable and will save you time and
money. Did you know that decluttering the home before putting it on the market
can speed up selling time by up to 40%.
» The average selling
price of a staged home was 19% above the listing price while the
un-staged home was only 15%. You do the math.
» A Real Estate survey
found that staged homes sold on average in 14 days for approximately
6.32% more than the selling price. On a home priced at $300,000 that
comes to about $18,900. Unstaged homes sold on average in 31 days for
1.6% above the asking price.
