Hey, are we having fun yet?
“It’s the journey, not the destination” is a popular phrase most of us are
familiar with. Often as grown ups we forget the importance of giving ourselves
permission to play once in awhile. "Somehow humans have the idea that they
shouldn’t indulge in play when they’re past childhood,” says Lenore Terr, MD,
professor of psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco, author
of Beyond Love and Work: Why Adults Need to Play. It’s a mistake we sometimes
make when we’re overwhelmed with responsibilities. This attitude can directly
affect our health and overall sense of well being. We all have a need for
laughter and lightness. Take a break from the “to dos and must dos” and go have
a good time with your family and friends. As the saying goes, it is the best
medicine.
Warmly,
Robin
Organizing and Storing Your Photos
Use these strategies to get your photos under control and make
sure they’ll be preserved for a long time to come.
-
Edit ruthlessly. As soon as the photos come back discard out
of focus, unflattering or redundant shots.
-
Label everything. If you can’t put photos in an album or
storage box right away, label the developer’s envelope or the back of photos
with a dull #2 pencil.
-
Choose the right storage. Photos should only be stored in
acid free (and more importantly) lignin-free albums or boxes. Note that the
terms “photo-safe”, “museum quality”, and “archival” do not guarantee that a
product is either acid or lignin free. Products that have passed the
Photographic Activity Test are considered by experts to be safest. Good
bets: Gaylord Keepsake album ($55) (800) 634-6307. Light Impressions
CardFile Box ($8-10.00). Use with Light Impressions Tabbed Index Dividers
($3.00 for six pack). Call 800-828-6216 for locations.
-
Keep photos cool and dry. Whether you store them in boxes or
albums the fate of all photos lies in the environment. Heat and humidity
will deteriorate photos – so never store in attic, basement, or garage.
Store photos in the same environment you would find most comfortable.
