What’s Personal is Most General...

Dear _______

The year 2008 is the year of new beginnings (8 in numerology symbolizes beginning and the start of new things). And I’ve got a lot of ideas and plans in my head – from starting an online coaching clinic to going on a missions trip. Having plans is great, but I’ve recognized that if I get too many projects going at one time I lose focus and get overwhelmed.

I’m reminded of something I tell my clients - “hover near the revenue line.” That means doing the things that will give you the greatest return on your investment of time, energy and money. Staying close to the revenue line doesn’t necessarily mean money either. It’s about focusing on your top priorities so you can deliver what you came to deliver. If you’re not hovering near your revenue line – what can you eliminate to get closer? How can you get focused on the big payoff activities? Hint: try paying attention to this week’s new article! ;)

To your confidence & success,

Are You Paying Attention?

This week’s featured article: Focus when you don’t feel like it: Are you paying attention?

If you’ve ever tried to concentrate or “make yourself” focus on a particular task or project, you know that sometimes your mind refuses to pay you any mind! You can train yourself to focus even when you don’t feel like it.

There are two basic reasons why we do anything: because we HAVE to and because we WANT to. Now if you have to do something you don’t want to do your mind will find plenty of reasons why it can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, couldn’t, wouldn’t. When it’s time to focus on something important it’s imperative that you shift yourself to a “wanna” frame of mind instead of a “gotta”.

So how do you do that? Here are 5 reasons that will help you remember WHY paying attention pays off. . .

  1. Increased productivity. You get more done when you’re totally focused on your work. Period.

  2. Peace of mind. You’re in charge of your thoughts instead of the other way around. Focus keeps you from worrying or stressing about events and/or people.

  3. Your work takes less time. Concentrating on the task (especially if it’s something you don’t like doing – isn’t it better to just get it done?) decreases the amount of time you spend on it, and saves you time because you’re apt to make less mistakes that are a natural byproduct of not paying attention.

  4. Your confidence soars. The ability to concentrate on thoughts that advance or enhance you instead of doubtful or worrisome thoughts is the key to turning your chaos into confidence.

  5. You’ll actually complete more goals. It doesn’t matter if your goal is to clean out a closet or write a screenplay – total focus will help you continue to stay committed over the long term and not give up when things get tough.

Just paying attention will positively impact every area of your life and give your self esteem a huge kick in the pants!
