The P.I.E. that won’t expand your waist, but will actually shrink it
December 2, 2009
There’s no shortage of pie during the holidays and that means more “waist management” than at other times of the year. There’s also more need for balance right now and finding simple ways to put yourself at the top (or as near as you can get!) of your priority list. What I’ve learned is that if one of the 3 pieces of our wellness “pie” is missing, the whole enchilada – I mean pie – is useless. This approach is a simple visual that has really helped me put things into perspective quickly and turn myself around. And it’s critical if you’re over 40 and want to be the sparkling diamond you remember yourself to be.
The “P.I.E.” is essentially:
Your Physical self . Taking care of your body. Eating clean, making regular exercise part of your daily life, stretching, getting enough sleep, getting enough vitamins and minerals to keep your body in “fighting” condition. Obviously, when that piece of the pie gets cut, you aren’t going to be able to do ANYTHING. Your body is the vehicle, period.
Your Inner Self. Your emotions. Your spirit. That means mind, moods, and attitudes. Keeping a watchful eye on stress (especially this time of year) and the emotional highs and lows that can really mess with your “chi” at holiday time. Your mind and emotions are extremely powerful contributors to or detractors from your overall health. I have to be very careful to watch the food/mood connection this time of year. As I’ve grown older, an excess of sugar will cause me to crash both physically and emotionally. I’ll get to feeling lowdown and dirty – so I make it a point to stay as far away from Vitamin M (&M) as possible. (My absolute to die for favorite sweet – peanut M and Ms!).
Your Environment. Your living space will support you both physically and emotionally – if it’s clutter free and organized. It will pump you with clarifying energy instead of draining you – and you need energy in abundance during the holidays! And clutter free doesn’t just apply to your home – think about your schedule, your “to do’s” and your commitments. What one thing can you cross off your list EVERY day? What projects or tasks will make you feel joyful and excited and which ones do you dread? Can you practice 3D thinking – Do it – Delegate it – or Delete it?
So what kind of PIE are you baking this season?
